My Nonna's Story
Nonna and her small kitchen were without a doubt, the heart and pulse of our family. She was the mother of five children and grandmother of nine grandchildren, who visited her almost on a daily basis.
Nonna was not just a grandmother to her own grandchildren; she was a grandmother to all who entered her cozy home, welcoming each visitor with open arms and an endless supply of love, great tasting food and always a freshly brewed cup of coffee crafted by her iconic white Corning ware pot, which was on the stove from morning till night. Her motto was, there’s always room for one more.
Nonna's House
Nonna's love for family was undeniable. Every Sunday, her home filled with the laughter of children, the chatter of adults, and the delightful aroma of her famous Sunday sauce and meatballs simmering on the stove served with her freshly made ravioli and of course, each special meal ended with anisette liqueur and black coffee. The entire family would gather around her small dining room table to enjoy conversation and delicious food. It was the time of the week when all troubles were set aside, and the bonds of family grew stronger.
Sunday was not the only day the gang gathered, we shared many meals and memories daily.
Her menus were unforgettable:
- Sunday homemade ravioli and meatballs
- Monday chicken noodle soup
- Tuesday escarole and beans
- Wednesday beef stew
- Thursday lentil soup
- Friday homemade pizza - shared with the neighbors
- Saturday her Saturday special which was an omelette filled with surprise meats, cheeses, and vegetables.
Nonna’s recipes are the legacy that she leaves behind and we hope you enjoy them as much as my family and I have enjoyed recreating them. Please enjoy with loved ones and make your own cherished memories.
